Thanks to all who attended the monthly Chapter meeting at Mudville on May 7.  We appreciate that Kerry Tait, Insurance by Ken Brown, was our meeting sponsor and provided all in attendance with a workforce safety CE course. If you are new to our meetings, from 6:30 p.m. – 6:45 p.m. we network and place our food and beverage orders. Then our volunteer president, Greg Bowers, welcomes all and goes over Chapter business.

Information from the state is discussed along with legislative issues. This is your Chapter and your membership and we want to hear from you. This is a great time to get questions answered about industry-related topics as well as a time to talk to other members. We always have a meeting sponsor who gives us information on their business and services. We also go over local events that we host or that are associated with water safety and education. Everyone eats together and we are always done by 8:00 p.m.

So if you haven’t attended a meeting yet, or it’s been a while, we welcome you and look forward to seeing you!

The next Chapter meeting will be Tuesday, June 4 and is sponsored by Zodiac (CE will be provided at this meeting). Please bring your business cards to this meeting and every meeting.

We are going to have a table where you can put your marketing materials and contact info. We want these meetings to be a way to network and we understand not everyone can take the time to do that so we are going to have a member table at each meeting moving forward. Thank you to President Greg Bowers for this idea!

The Annual Golf Tournament was held Friday, April 26 at The Champions Course at Julington Creek. Thank you so much to the Debi Garner, Pools by John Garner, and the entire committee for all their work!

They really know how to make things look, but we know better. Thank you to our sponsors, who year after year play, attend and donate. We had another successful event and raised nearly $13,000 because of your generosity.

Thank you to all who played and weathered the scattered showers of the day. And thanks to all who also gave to the silent auction which helped us to raise even more than we did last year. View more than 140 pictures from the tournament in the event photo album on the Chapter Facebook page at

The 2019 BOAF conference is being held at Renaissance World Golf Village in St. Augustine. FSPA has a booth and we are looking for volunteers to assist. FSPA Government Affairs Manager Dallas Thiesen will be there, but having contractors there is a great benefit.

The state office is looking for volunteers from the Northeast and East Central Florida Chapters. Time slots, which are considered exclusive exhibit hours, are: Monday, June 10: 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. and/or 3:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.; Tuesday, June 11: 8:15 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. and/or 10:00 a.m. –
1:00 p.m.  Mary will be coordinating the details; please let her know if you can help.

Grab all your employees who are looking to gain their FPPS certification and save the date! Thank you to Board member Jeff Clarkson, Vak Pak, who will be the instructor of this 16 hour course.

It is Wednesday, June 12 from 5:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.,
Thursday, June 13 from 5:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.
and Saturday, June 15 from 8:00 a.m.-
5:00 p.m.  The class will be held at the Mudville Grille (small River Room) in the St Nicholas Shopping Center, 3105 Beach Blvd, Jacksonville. Contact Diane to get more details, which will also be sent out to everyone soon.
We are looking at hosting a clay shooting fundraiser in October. This looks like a very fun option for our Chapter. If you would like to be on the committee, contact Diane. Thank you to Connor McCown, Zodiac; Brian Curts, Eagle Pools; and Greg Bowers, First Coast Pool and Patio/Pinch A Penny, for being the chairs of this benefit!

All meetings are held on the first Tuesday of the month from 6:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., unless otherwise noted, and are at Mudville Grille in the St. Nicholas Shopping Center, 3105 Beach Blvd, Jacksonville. Dinner cost is covered with a $15 donation if you eat, which includes choice of dinner and a beverage. Please be sure to bring guest to next month’s meeting!

If you’re interested in sponsoring a meeting in 2019, please contact Diane. Space will fill up fast!
We appreciate your continued support!

By Brett Holland, Treasure Pools /  brett@treasurepoolsfl.com  It is 2018 and the demand for ozone is continuing to rise for residential swimming pools.  Consumers and industry professionals are both becoming more aware of the downsides of traditional sanitizers, such as salt chlorine generators, liquid chlorine and stand-alone tablet feeders.  Ozone was first discovered 170 years […]

The scholarship application for the 2018-2019 FSPA Scholarship Program is ready!  Dependents of owners or company employees (of 2+ years) are welcome to download the application.  All materials are due in the office by June 29.  Spread the word to any company staff with graduating high schoolers or college students.

A situation a Florida business ran into recently made us believe that a short article on this subject might be of value.  The US Department of Labor contacted this business as a result of a former employee complaint.  The individual was a pool service technician who was paid per pool serviced vs. by an hourly […]
